Lesson Structure

An initial session is 5 days a week, 10 minutes a day for approximately 6-8 weeks. Most children finish in six weeks, but some may take longer due to illness or lesson assimilation. Instructor/Student Ratio is 1:1

Age Requirements

Lessons can begin at any age 6months-6 years. Babies must be RELIABLY sitting before lessons can start. We recommend 9 months and older but can start a child as young as 6 months.

Medical Clearance

Every Student must be cleared by the National ISR Team of Nurses and Senior Master Instructors to begin lessons. The fee is $105 for new students and $35 for returning students. The fee is mandatory as you will begin the registration process shortly after sign ups. This fee is not part of your session tuition.

Cost/Tuition

A 6 week lesson fee is $750-$850. Fees will be broken down into multiple payments. A deposit fee equivalent to one week of lessons is due at sign up.

Scholarships

South Chicago ISR chooses the CAST Water Safety Foundation to provide scholarships based on income, disability, and community worker status. Scholarships can only be coordinated AFTER you secure a time slot in a session. More info can be found under the Lessons tab.

Emotions

As a certified ISR instructor, we are trained to gauge the physio-emotional condition of each child before, during, and after lessons. A small percentage of children cry during the entirety of the lessons (IMPORTANT--lesson tempo is personalized to the child and we do not have a child attempt a skill we do not believe they are capable of doing) but most grow to truly enjoy the life saving lessons.

Lesson Continuation

After the initial session, it is recommended that you keep up with refresher and/or maintenance lessons until your child ages out of lessons if you cannot practice on your own. Children who are taught to float should expect to complete another full session when they are ready to Swim-Float-Swim (recommended after 2 years old).

Returning Family Priority

It is our job to provide the most availability to returning families for refreshers before opening spots to new families. This limits availability for new students, particularly in the peak season March-June. Fall and Winter provides the most availability for new students.
