Infant and Toddler Self-Rescue Lessons

SOUTH CHICAGO ISR

Welcome to South Chicago ISR

Drowning is the leading cause of death for healthy 1 to 4 year olds in the US—but it doesn’t have to be! We are a group of independent certified Infant Swimming Resource instructors teaching the leading method of self-rescue designed for children 6 months to 6 years old in Chicago’s Southland.

As much as we love seeing these little ones move in water, safety is at the heart of the program. We aim to make AQUATIC PROBLEM SOLVERS.

Everyone must join the waitlist in the LESSONS tab before gaining access to sign up opportunities.

At the end of your initial session, your child will be able to INDEPENDENTLY self rescue using a skill set particular to their ability level starting from a Rollback to Float all the way up to a swim-float-swim.

EXPECTATIONS

CLASS STRUCTURE

Initial sessions consist of 6-8 weeks of daily 10 minute classes Monday-Friday. The average completion time is 6 weeks. Your child will come to lessons every weekday at the same time for about a month and a half. Lessons are 1-1 instructor to student ratio. Parents will be invited to join a lesson once or twice in a full session.

Babies need to be at least 6 months old while also independently AND reliably sitting. We generally recommend starting them at 9 months, though we can accommodate as young as 6 months. We can then start a child at any age up to 6 years old.

AGES

AFTER AN INITIAL SESSION

After your initial session, refreshers and maintenance options are used to maintain and improve individual skills as your child grows. Most of our children are ready to move on to strokes by 5-6 years old.

Babies who are taught to float will need to sign up for a full session to learn swim-float-swim— generally recommended after 2 years old.
